Performances in theater and dance and presentations of film, video and visual art coordinated by The Voice of the City’s Christopher Ellis and Dawn Marie Galtieri.

Here's a sampling of the innovative performance arts presentations you’ll find at the 2010 Milwaukee Avenue Arts Festival:

  • The Fatal Gift of Beauty, a one-act play about a teenage Latina trapped in rural South Dakota, Location: Voice of the City Studio, 3429 W. Diversey, Suite 208 on Friday and Saturday at 7 PM and on Sunday at 5 PM

  • Gravity and Its Friends, a screening of short-films, presented by Spiderbug, a mobile film festival based in Chicago, curated by artist and filmmaker Catie Olsen with assistance by EC Brown. Gravity will be presented in conjunction with a mixed media and installation exhibition. Location: Voice of the City Studio and Center Portion, located at 2850 ½ W. Fullerton.

  • On Sunday, the presentations begin at 11:30 AM when both students and dance company members of the Chicago Ballet Center take to the Magic Hat Main Stage. Visit their studios at 3433 West Diversey on both Saturday, July 24th and Sunday, July 25th at both 2 and 4 PM where the company will offer informal presentations within their space. Dance numbers will also be on view in the Gap clothing store windows on these days at 1:30 and 3:30 PM

  • Vaudeville Underground, a modern day variety show that includes aerial circus arts, modern dance, juggling, African drum, Latin folk music, and ballroom dance, will be presented by Voice of the City on the Magic Hat Main Stage located on the corner of Logan Blvd. and Milwaukee Avenue from Noon to 1 PM

  • The Space Movement/Project, a modern dance performance by Lauren Parets at Mixed Motion Art, and a street dance performance by Flash Mob on Saturday afternoon in Main Stage Plaza around the Monument will excite and engage

  • Visit Window Dressing a display inspired performance in the window of Threads (Re-sale shop), located at 2327 N. Milwaukee Avenue, which is also presented by Voice of the City
